Call the board
The Windows Source is back up on telnet, running the same Remote Access 2.02 setup from 1995. Log in right here in your browser, or use a real BBS terminal.
Just looking around?
Use the guest login. It can read the message bases, browse the file areas and play the door games. It can't post or upload.
GuestguestGuest calls get 30 minutes. There's only one line, like the old days, so if it's busy try again in a bit. Want your own account? Type your own name at the first prompt and sign up.
Log in from your browser
Hit Connect below. At the first prompt type Guest, then the password guest. Click inside the terminal so it gets your typing.
If it says it can't connect, the board is probably down for a minute. Check back later.
Telnet address
bbs.windowssourcebbs.comPort 23 (the normal telnet port). Port 2323 works too.
telnet bbs.windowssourcebbs.com
Want the RIP graphics? Use SyncTERM
The browser terminal is fine for ANSI. For the full experience, including Chris’s RIP screens with clickable buttons, use SyncTERM. It’s free for Windows, Mac and Linux.
- Address
- bbs.windowssourcebbs.com
- Connection
- Telnet · Port 23 (or 2323)
- ANSI
- Screen Mode: 80x25 (VGA)
- RIP
- Screen Mode: EGA 80x25 · RIP: RIPv1
- RIP needs the EGA 640x350 mode. On VGA you only get the ANSI screens.
- Make two entries in the dialing directory, one ANSI and one RIP, both pointing at the same address.
- The board figures out RIP on its own when you connect.
- Mac: if SyncTERM says it can’t check the developer, go to System Settings, Privacy & Security, and click Open Anyway.
